Not long to go now, this is day 60. Rhoadi is doing alright. Have reduced her walks to once a day. She still walks faster than me. Shes eating ok.

Starting to fart smellies today though. phew! Whelping box is finished. Feeling confident in Rhoadi and excited about the whole thing.

So next time I'm here will will have pups! Woohoo!

Rhoadi's Pregnancy

Posted by Penny on October 1, 2012 at 1:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Rhoadi was mated on the 21st and 23rd September. Day 10 and 12 of her cycle.

We had pregnancy scan on day 24 but pups were not visible, the scan a week later on 23rd October showed 4 pups. Some maybe behind the others, so we wont know until the scan a few days before whelping. This is to determine the size, number and position of the pups to make sure everything is positioned correctly for birth and to be aware of any problems.

As the pups were not visible on day 24, it is determined that the conception was later. Could be 5+ days later. So first scan makes the pups 3 weeks old-not visible, second scan 4 weeks.

Pups will be due around the 28th November and ready 8 weeks after that. Approx. 28 January 2013.

Well, she first spotted on the wednesday morning and 14 days later she was welcoming the male, tail aside and letting him, this went on until the saturday. The second heat 5 months later, she was ready on day 10. That is when we mated her.

I am going to buy a male pup and in 2 years he will sire Rhoadi's litter. Next season though, as she approaches 2 1/2 I will mate her with a stud dog in WA. I have a few in mind that I really like. the pups will be red and white and likely, some pied.

As I have to wait for the new baby to mature I am now Seeking a Red and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier pup in Perth - Albany.
Let me know if you have a litter due or know someone.

Rhoadi is DNA clear, registered with Dogswest, healthy and with exceptional temperament, with no disorders or behavioural problems.

I expect her life mate will be the same.

Seeking Stud

What an interesting journey this has been trying to find a suitable stud for Rhoadi's first mating.

She is on day 8 of her heat, and I have 4 studs to choose from. In no way was this an easy process, it was all a matter of who knows who!
There are some gorgeous boys I'm certain at least one will be a great match.

Whatever happened to taking the two potential mates on a play date letting them get to know each other and then letting nature happen?

Oh well...its going to be a long trekk to Canningvale for us. Why can't he live in Mandurah.lol Whinging aside, it certainly has been a fast track course for me and at the moment I cant learn enough, there's always more! Spent the entire night last night searching the ancestries and finding out what dog came from whom, it is very interesting you know.
Rhoadi has a couple of faults that should be rectified with the correct stud. It is getting exciting now, very close. Well it's good that I'm yawning now and not going to repeat an all nighter, so off to bed for now...
